Accountability and Assessment Data

Washington’s school reform efforts focus on setting clear, high expectations for what students should know and be able to do in preparation for living and working in the 21st century.

The Essential Academic Learning Requirements (EALRs) articulate the state’s expectations and learning standards.

The Measurements of Student Progress (MSP) and the High School Proficiency Exam (HSPE) measure whether students have met these standards.  Teachers in the Ridgefield School District address these essential academic learning requirements every day in their classroom teaching.

Please contact your child’s teacher or school principal if you need additional information.

We look forward to working in a partnership with parents, students and staff to assure a successful year for your
child(ren).

Sincerely,

Dr. Patricia Boles

Assistant Superintendent
Ridgefield School District

MSP/HSPE Assessment

Students are regularly assessed relative to these state standards through the use of the Measurements of Student Progress (MSP) administered in grades 3-8 and the High School Proficiency Exam (HSPE) administered in Grade 10.

End-of-Course Assessments (EOC)
Beginning in Spring 2011, End-of-Course (EOC) exams for high school Mathematics will replace the Mathematics portion of the HSPE.  These exams will test students on the knowledge and skills gained from a specific course rather than on a comprehensive test that assesses overall knowledge.  Based on the revised K-12 Mathematics Learning Standards, testing will be in algebra I and geometry.  The EOC exams will be administered to students who are taking these respective classes.

MSP/HSPE Science Assessment

Students are also required by state law to complete a state assessment of science knowledge. New science benchmarks have recently been developed, and testing relative to these standards occurs in grades 5, 8 and 10.
