Ridgefield School District Instructional Services
The Ridgefield School District offers an academic program with a proven record of achievement. Ridgefield has a long history as a district with a strong curriculum—a blend of common-sense basic skills instruction and creative strategies that promotes higher-level thinking and reasoning. Ridgefield students typically have performed at or among the highest when compared with students across the region.
Students who have been identified as Highly Capable receive specialized instruction in a pull-out model classroom ½ day per week and for the rest of the time are grouped together in regular grade level classrooms where the teacher has received training to differentiate curriculum.
Students with needs in the essential skill areas of math and reading are diagnosed at an early age so that programs and assistance can be tailored to their individual profiles. Elementary schools employ both math and reading specialists who have been selected to help both students and teachers with coaching in these areas.
Beginning in the seventh grade, students can access accelerated courses in math at the middle school level and Ridgefield High School also offers a wide variety of Advanced Placement courses.
Children with special needs are fortunate to have access to caring staff and unique programs—many that have been developed with the assistance of experts in new service delivery models. The District contracts with Educational Service District (ESD) 112 to ensure that even as a smaller district, our students and teachers in grades K-12 are the beneficiaries of equipment, software, and programs that makes instruction more accessible and effective for students’ special needs.
Fine and Performing Arts at the Elementary Level Ridgefield has continued its focus on the Fine and Performing Arts in grades K-6 with specialists who provide elementary students’ opportunities to development the talents in vocal music, instrumental music and the visual arts.
